A lovely scene of Stockton Railway Station and to the right a glimpse of the Queen’s Hotel. I’m not sure of the year, maybe someone can tell me…

  1. Derek Buttle – My nannas name was Emily Maria Murray (nee Buttle) father, Jerehmia Buttle any relation? They used to live in 27 Alma Street.

  2. Derek Buttle who submitted this photo was a good Gashouse lad along with his brothers Norman and Billy. The station area was where Keith Roberts, Kevin Franks, Louis Johnson and Derek Overton lived.

    • 1893 to 1900, the Station was built in 1893 in its present position after being in several positions around the town, one of them being Stockton North Station on Norton Road which later became the goods station and that was later moved to Bridge road.
There are no signs of motor transport in the picture and it is possibly a photograph of the new station (only a guess) as there were a lot of people taking up the new fangled art my Uncle Cecil Diddams being one of them although too young to have taken that photo.
I left and returned to that station so many times always having the feeling of relief at being home as we pulled up to the platform, it was a cold draughty place but a welcome sight.
