This photograph taken in October 1979 shows Sober Hall Farm House, Raydale Beck, Ingleby Barwick. This farm complex, dates from the late 18th/early 19th century, it once included a granary, barn, horse engine, windmill and byres. Is this the same building built by Sir William Turner of Kirkleatham? It was restored c2001 into a private residence.
Does anybody know how this farm came by its unusual name? Was Sober Hall a place or a person?
