A postcard showing the Thornaby-on-Tees coat of arms which I purchased a few years ago. The back is a normal postcard stating “Inland 1/2p stamp”. It has never been posted.
I like the coat of arms of Thornaby. I have a fabric badge that was on my late father’s blazer when he played bowls for Littleboy Park Thornaby, so it brought back memories.
I’m glad it brought back memories John. The mention of Littleboy Park brought them back for me. I used to play there as a child. Can anyone tell me what is represented in front of the anchors?
Lesley, were you born in Thornaby? I was and lived in Eric Avenue where I wasa born (1940) went to Westbury Street school then Robert Atkinson and finally Arthur Head! I don’t like what I see now of Thornaby.
Hi John, I was born on Brotton Road in Thornaby at my grandparents house, but was brought up at Fairfield in Stockton. I spent most weeekends at Gran and Grandad’s house. I’ve always loved Thornaby, but agree, it’s not the same. My mum has moved back to her Thornaby roots and says that it’s lost it’s community spirit. She was born in Georgiana Street. The family came from Spring Street before that.
