One of my first weekend shifts when working for the BR Darlington District/ Thornaby Area (1966-71) involved going onto Yarm viaduct to view the Viaduct Inspection Unit (VIU) operated by my manager. The Yarm stationmaster was a Mr George McVeigh and I knew his son David – about my age (Ca. 10)- who joined the Police Force.

  2. Is this photograph taken from the road bridge to Aislaby? You are almost certainly right if you take the centre of the photograph yarm town hall is at about “five to twelve” in the background in front of the “white ” buildings.

    • On the road crossing the site of Yarm station is an attractive dwelling named “Prospect House”. Dad was engaged in buying this property in the early 1960s.
