  1. My Grandfather Joe McCue used to drink in the Dolphin pub along with his sons Billy, Joe, Bob, Artie and Jimmy. The McCue’s were a big Portrack family back then five boys and three girls. The girls were Nora, Bessie and my mam Agnes.

Back in 1974 I used to go down to the Dolphin and wait for my girlfriend at that time to come out from the knicker factory in Portrack Lane . Can anyone remember the name of the factory?

    T. Capindale: Not sure about the knicker factory but in the late 1970s Bellrive Fashions? This factory was opposite the Dolphin. Later it became a heating products premise and after demolition and re-development the site was then occupied by Farm Foods and Netto supermarkets.

I was born and bred in Stockton-on-Tees. I worked at the Dolphin for eight years till I started to work in the Lords Tavern in Yarm Lane. I have never looked back since and now I own my own pub in Redcar.
