t13157In 1939, The Globe showed George Formby’s latest film based around the RAF called, ‘It’s in the Air’. The RAF decided to stage a recruiting drive at the Globe whilst the film was showing. These photographs show some of the RAF display in the foyer of the theatre.

  1. I have always been a George Formby fan when this film was shown at the Globe I was eleven years old. In 1950 while on holiday on the Norfolk Broads with my friends Margaret and Doris of Norton. We had the pleasure of meeting George by accident in Woods boatyard where he kept his own boat “The Lady Beryl” we had a nice chat and I asked him when they were going to make another film but he told me there was no money available for that. I took a picture of him with Margaret and Doris and I sent a copy to Picture Stockton some years ago in the hope that it would remind the two Norton girls of our super holiday.

  2. Very nostalgic photographs, especially for George Formby fans. Considering what a massive box office attraction he was in those days, making use of his film as a recruiting drive was surely a good idea.
