Does anyone Know when the Shambles ceased being a meat market?
It ceased to be a meat market when facilities were made to do it in the Castle gate Centre. Don’t know the date.
Thanks Bob. I have vague memories as a child, during the early 1970’s, of being in the shambles and seeing sawdust and animal carcasses. I wasn’t sure if my mind was playing tricks on me.
IS IT STILL USED AS A MEAT MARKET ?
Don’t know about now but used to help fairsey butchers when I was a kid who had a stall in there. I always remember going to his home with my dad to help with the chickens and rabbits only to find out they were actually killing and dressing them.
