  1. I have just counted the pupils in the Norton Board School Photo and they have 41 pupils so maybe we were the lucky ones with only 39 pupils in the Newham Grange Class of 49/50. Does anyone remember their school days with more than 41 pupils in the class. I bet .Ken Sawyer or Bill Rosser never had this many in their class on their way to becoming Head Teachers at their respective Schools.

    • I attended St.Mary’s school in Stockton from1944-1954, and I have a pic.dated 1954 of our class with 42 children in the class and I can name every one if asked.

  2. Interesting to note the numbers in this class of 1887 was only 30 pupils, I have just counted the Newham Grange 4A class of 1949/50 as being 39 pupils, a 30% increase, how is that for progress in the Stockton Education System. We were always aware of the disparity of opportunities and school places for Grammar school places in Stockton but this revelation beats the cake for going backwards in conditions. The ratio of Grammar School places to Pupils in the Stockton area was 5 in 100, whereas in Manchester and the South it was 1 in 25. I hope the new Stockton University is providing locals with the opportunity for a University place and not as In Australia where most of the places go to overseas fee paying students.

    • Oops the ratio for Manchester was 25 in 100 not as stated in 25. Another Senior Moment. They are getting more frequent lately I wonder why.
