A sad picture. The theatres of the 20s became cinemas into the 60s, then dowdy bingo halls, like this one, which looks as if it’s just waiting for the bulldozer in the first years of the new century. The sign says “Regent Bingo Club.” Was there a Regent Cinema in the Stockton area? I remember there was one in Redcar.
I worked as manager at the Regent Redcar, I know well that this is not this cinema.
There was a Regent Cinema in Middlesbrough, built in 1938 and said to be located in Parliament Road, with the site being taken by a supermarket.
The area is so changed that it is impossible to locate the site. Can anyone help?
I agree with you Bob not the Avenue no bungalows next door .
I believe this was the Avenue Picture House on Norton Avenue, the Moderne was on Norton Road later the Fiesta
No this is not the Avenue picture house. The first houses immediately after the picture house were semi-detached houses and not a bungalow.
I don’t recognise it from the Stockton area, I may be wrong…
I may be wrong bit I think its a former cinema at the bottom of Norton Avenue………
No definitely not the ‘Moderne’ on Norton Avenue…but I know I’ve seen it just can’t place it.
