During the war years the local cricket leagues tried to keep their various competitions going. This photograph shows my late father Tom Birtle holding two trophies won by Norton Juniors in 1942. The team had done the double winning both the league and cup. Tom who was 16 at the time was the skipper of the team. The photograph was taken on the land adjacent to Norton Junction railway cottages over the road from where Harpers garden centre used to be.

I remember all the Birtle family that lived in the railway cottages on Junction Road. Buddy was my school friend at Freddie Nattrass school. The war came in the way of our friendship and somebody told me Bud had died some years ago sadly. I am now midway in my eighties, never thought I would make it.
