  1. Was this the start of the confusion over the apostrophe? The upper sign has one but the lower one, which I assume is newer does not. Maybe they were simply years ahead of Waterstones in deciding it would make things easier for everybody by leaving it out.

  2. Another facade from the architectural ‘hotch-potch’ that both sides of Stockton High St became, since the middle of the 19thC. This time, with distinct 1920’s / 30’s ‘art deco’ influences in ribbed & fluted cast stuccowork, very similar to that on the facade of The Globe Theatre, erected within the same timeframe. Google ‘Streetview’ cannot cope with the new High St layout , so I can only presume that this has now been demolished?
