How amazingly detailed the facade and roof areas of Mr Robinson’s ‘Colosseum’ Dept Store appears at the end of the High St. This store was architecturally worthy of any that were being developed in Leeds, Manchester & Liverpool at that time.
Today, most of the detailing including the cupolas, the roof lanterns, the flagstaffs and even the cast faience-work lettering that can just be seen above the arched topped windows…have all been stripped away. As a result, this once fine building now offers little, or no visual entertainment to the High St whatsoever.
