Derek was my best friend at school. But we were real tearaways! Where is he now?
I knew Mr Balbach and his son Derek well. I used to look after their cars and vans in the 70s. Bob Saunders did the tyres side.
My Godfather worked here, first for Provincial Tyers, then later for Provincial paint and equipment.
The company diversified when Mr Balbach senior died and his son Derek, (the noted Stock Car race driver) took over the firm.
There was a second branch in Darlington.
I remember it well, I used to buy cellulose paint & tools from them.
