Top Centre Left is the old Admiralty or Admirality as some called it. Formally part of Ministry of Defence, this was known as the the Royal Navy Spare Parts Distribution Centre (UK) or RNSPDC. Allegedly, for short periods spare warehouse space was rented from the Eaglescliffe Industrial Estate (EIE). Apparently, the MoD had an Inspecting Officer called McDonald who worked over there, who would answer the ‘phone by saying “McDonald EIEIO”.
I think some of that story is true, but not all of it.
I worked at MDS when it first opened . It made parts for computers . Some people I remember were : Margret , Ellen , Patricia , Margaret , Gladys , who all worked with me on the Modem assembly section , Happy Days , I went out with Barry Aitchison for six years who sadly died a few years ago .
Hi Carol
I started at MDS in 1971 I think, my sister Pat was working there. I remember working for John Dellow, who was I think was the production manager and Jim Farren in the stores. I think Ken Bacon was the MD at the time, before the days of Gerry McCrory. I also worked with Jeff Jeffels in the packing department, it seems like only yesterday.
This photo brings back memories of a couple of places I worked at in the very early 1970’s, on this site. The building just above the large one at the bottom centre is or was called C A Hields Engineering Ltd, Then the one on the extreme top right slightly obscured by trees, used to be MDS ( Mohawk Data SIences ) and then became CBM ( Commadore Business Machines ) which made and assembled calculators, very new and novel in those days. Both MDS & CBM employed hundreds of local women of the area to assemble and solder all parts etc.

You sometimes picked me up on the way home when you worked at Hields, and I was at MDS / CBM, you had I think a Yamaha YDS3 if I remember rightly. Later we used my 250 Suzuki or your little Mini, depending on the weather usually. Happy days.
Hi Steve, You’ve got a good memory, yes it was a Yamaha 250 YDS3. They really were happy days, as the company and people were really nice, a joy to go to work. Remember all the do’s that we’re on the go pretty frequently, i.e discos and dances. I have lived at Chester for the last 26 years, but frequently visit Stockton to see family and friends,in fact I am up next week and will go to see the Redcar Bears speedway ( still like motor bikes ), but just to watch. Glad to here you are still around. Have very fond memories of Brownsbridge as well, where have all the years gone ?.
