I was at Robert Atkinson school with some of the pupils in that photo, namely Valerie Beech, Jean Langcake, Linda Thubron, Joyce Harwood and Angela Bucannon.. I went to Mandela Infants and Mandale Juniors. Sandra Dover
Hi, I’m Roy Pugh, went to Queen Street School in mid 40’s (remember Malcolm Harris, Eric Peacock, Barry Robson-Cross) then to Middlesbrough High, the Army and the Civil Service. Now live in Essex.
Hi Karen, I’m Carole Moore, (the ? next to Joan Shepherd on the back row). I married a man with the same surname, now divorced, so very convenient, no need to change my name back! I think the teacher was called Miss Corkish, or something similar. I seem to remember she was from the Isle of Man.
Hi Carol
How are you? Sorry your name slipped my memory when I first started naming everyone, only the other day when I looked at it again and it came to me instantly! That’s my age! well my excuse anyway!
I’m sure that’s the teacher name, it certainly rings a bell now.
I can’t believe where all those years have gone??
Does anyone have any photos of Miss Lilian Goodhall MBE, who was a teacher at the National 1947, Queens Street School, and then at Westbury Street School 1961…

Sorry if I have got any names wrong and for the ones I can’t remember as it was a long time ago!
My name is Alan Payne one of the people in the photo, I remember Karen Barnes who lived at the house at the end of Stafford Close.
I remember all the names of the people you mentioned just couldn’t put some names to faces.
According to “STOCKTON ROOTS”, another excellent source of information, a Valerie R Beech died in 2011, this could be her with the presumption she never married, hope this helps.
Hey Alan! 50 years on eh!! Blimey it’s a lifetime, couldn’t believe it when I saw that photo. I did live at the end of Stafford Close, on Thornaby Road, we had the top flat of Stafford Villa as it was then. I think the kids at school thought we had the whole house! I think I heard that Valerie Beech from Stafford Close had died, do you know if that’s right? Do you see anyone from school?
Hi Karen I can confirm that Val Beech died around 2010/2011 I was at Queen Street and Arthur Head with her brother Howard I used to see her regularly around Thornaby and in the football club where Head Wrightsons used to be. Sorry to confirm sad news.
Hello karen didn’t think you would reply.
I’ve lived in Newcastle for the past 40 years so no haven’t seen anyone from school, I was going to ask you the same thing.
Do you know when Valerie died, that’s a bit of a shock but still how many of us are still alive? It would be great to catch up if you want to speak
I remember you well, Karen. You also went to Arthur Head after Queenie, you lived in Barker Road then. Some names (top row, boys) David Holliday, John Campbell, ? , Donald Walker, John Legg, Kenny Harris, Steve Elsworth, Barrie Speight, Peter Shepherd (best school mate ever), Thompson, Alan Payne, Alan Clarkson.

I hope you are keeping well, it’s amazing how much you can still remember after 50 years. Alan Payne and Peter Shepherd were good mates with me at Arthur Head and I still see Peter now and then….. Happy memories!!!!!
Hi Alan, sorry it’s been a while replying, but I have not been on this part of Facebook for some time.
Are you on Facebook , if so we can communicate from there, to catch up. I hope you are well. I took early retirement from the old British Steel in 2010 (I think you also started work for them when you left school) so I guess I am am a man of leisure now. Do your remember playing footie on the Pats field opposite your house and before that getting fish & chips from Dessies at the bottom of Thornaby bank (where I am sure your Nanna lived). I can also be contacted on e mail. If you contact Picture Stockton they will pass it on. Hope to hear from you.
Hi Sandra think you mean another Dave Atkinson, he went to Robert Atkinson School and is the same age has me. He had a older brother (about 2 years) called Ronnie who is probably your man. I believe both David and Ronnie still live in the area. You might find them on Facebook, worth a try. Sorry.

Hi David. Thank you for replying. You are right. The other David Atkinson went to Robert Atkinson. I went to Robert Atkinson 1963 to 1968. I now live in Rotherham. Used to live in Lanehouse Road. Yours Sandra
