And my twin sister Ruth ( Granger) is sitting next to Pam Broadbent on Pam’s right looking at the picture – ie – 6th from the left in second row. On Pam’s left in the pic I think is Verna Featherstone? Ruth and I were both wearing identical Horrocks cotton frocks and red sandals!
I am at the far right hand end of the third row with a girl called a Joyce I think on my right, ( left in the pic) and next to her Marion?!
On the third row from the left is Susan Maggs? Four to the right of Susan is a girl called Linda I think. And on the right of my sister is Cherry Coates, then Ruth Bilsbrough(?) then Dorothy Hope. Immediately behind Ruth Bilsbrough is a tall girl I think called Beryl!
Obviously I can only be certain of my twin sister and I but it brings back happy memories of a school we both enjoyed. We lived a stones throw from the village green and we’re in the Brownies and Guides on Norton Green for years …….. I have lived in North Yorkshire for many years and my sister who taught maths in local schools, still lives the area too.
Can anyone else identify themselves I wonder?
Best wishes to any old Nortonians! Maureen Granger that was!
My mam Patricia Pearson went to this school before moving over to william newton school. Circa 1940’s I have a photo somewhere I’ll try and find and post on here of when the Mayor visited. I wonder if anyone out there remembers her? Or the Mayors visit? He handed out chocolate! I believe I went there too for a brief stint… mam had a long illness around 1961/ 62. I was cared for by a children’s home in Winterton Road and they sent me to the Norton Board School. I was Carol Nichol back then…. anyone out there have any recollections/memories to share?
