Many of my forebears were born in Stockton. I own a great book about the towns history, which includes many old photographs. I presently can’t access it since it’s in one of a number of boxes which I’ve had in storage whilst I’ve been out of the country. Anyway in the said book, a caption under a photo not dissimilar to that above, makes mention of the large stucco feature above the main door which denotes a castle and anchor. I’m nearly sure the caption states that the stucco contains human hair! At the time the stucco masterpiece was created, it would not have been unusual to have used horse hair to “bind” the lime-based plaster together. But human hair? Spooky! Once I unpack the boxes and locate the book in question, I’ll confirm the statement under the picture.
I think it’s a bit later than 1965 – Teesside Municipal Transport was created in 1968, and there’s a TMT office in the picture.

The last time I visited Stockton I had looked for the plaque that was placed during the Queens visit, what happened to it? Does anyone know?
