  1. This Frank Sedgwick had a brother possibly named Bob as he looks similar to him. I worked at Hills door factory with Bob. The father originated from the Blue Hall estate in Norton. Possible connection.

    • Yes I think his father was called John who was known as Big Sedge who played centre forward for a few Norton teams that played on Bluehall Rec.

      • The probable father I knew worked at Norton Stone and Concrete works. I don’t think through certain physical things with him that he was able to play football, although he was well over 6 feet tall.

  2. I guess the picture of the SYCG workers will have been taken in about 1989. I’m curious to know if the Frank Sedgewick featured on the picture is a relative (perhaps the son) of a chap I went to college with? Regrettably, I can’t recall my Sedgewick’s forename, but we both attended Stockton/Billingham Technical College on Oxbridge Avenue, Stockton from 1963-65, then Hartlepool College of Further Education for a further three years.

We were both at college as apprentice bricklayers. We did one whole day of day release and at least one evening as I recall. Our tutor was a guy called Harry Timlin who came from Hartlepool. Other guys on our course included Andrew Foulger, John Tinker (from Sedgefield), a chap called Alan Hodges (or Hodgson) from Fishburn, a guy from Thornaby by the name of Morgan, a chap from Norton by the name of Doughty (I think) and Paul O’Hara to name but a few.

    Happy days!

    • Frank Sedgewick in the photo played football for The Riverside team who were a top team in the Stockton & District League in the eighties, I think he was from Norton.
