  1. Hi was wondering if anyone lived or knew the flats at Norton were called Ragworth Place flats were 3 story I think my dad lived there before moving to Roseworth

  2. The beloved top house…….must go in for a pint when I’m home. I wonder if they still have cheese, crackers, and onions? mmmm, on Sunday lunch time only.

  3. Also known as Dobby’s after her husband, he was Albert Dobson. He was there a lot of years. I remember his son Desmond who was my age and that was when I was a small boy just after the War

    • True Bob, and there was also a Daughter who sometimes helped behind the bar. Nelly was a Barmaid then as Albert’s wife was alive.
Albert took no prisoners and often on Saturday night there would be a battle on the Green, he threw them out to finish it outside.
We lads often by passed the Top House as we knew it for the George and Dragon, there was a piano in the back room and a very shapely lady played it so a few pints and a singsong after the Darts and Domino’s, “gosh” we knew how to enjoy ourselves in those days.

    • Many years ago my brother and I were very friendly with Hughie Dobson. His uncle must have been Albert who, on a visit there, gave us lemonades. I do clearly remember him telling us that the corner of the building had to be removed to facilitate the transport of the horse-drawn Big Ben bell. No-one has ever corroborated this claim. I believe that Hugh had other uncles in the licensing trade though which pubs I can not remember. PBB

      • There was a Albert Dobson that had the Gas Hotel in the fifties, his daughter Jean married Terry Anderson, they had the Board Inn & the Stork Hotel.

  4. Funny I have just found out that an address [Nelsons Yard] I was looking for from the 1800`s is down the alleyway next to this pub.
