I played drums with Rusty in a bandbox, organized by the landlord out on the Turks Head car park on a chilly summer day in 1983. I was 16 then. It was captured on video. Lots of local kids dancing, different singers. I may takes some stills of the video that and put up on Facebook, see if anyone recognizes themselves.
My great great Grandmother Anne Rowell (nee Dawson), and her husband George, were landlady & landlord here in the 1880s – according to the census. Apparently they brewed their own beer as well. I only went in the once – and it was before I realised the family connection. Sadly it seemed as if it had seen better days.
It was opposite St Marys Church on Norton Road, Dave Bodley lived there with his grandma in the 50s.
