These photographs were taken September 1989 of the Methodist Central Hall on Billingham Green. The church is now demolished and we believe a nursing home is now on the site. The hall at the back of the church was used as a Sunday School and for community functions.

Came across the B.B. photo by accident when I was trying to find when Billingham Methodist Central Hall was built. I was a bugler in the B.B. at that time but I don’t recognise myself anywhere in the photo. I now live in Wellingborough but occasionally meet Billingham people at our school year re-union which takes place at the St. George hotel on Teesside airport. Brings back memories. I attended Sunday school there in the 1950’s, and was a member of the 1st Billingham Boys Brigade from 1959 to 1961. We used to meet up at Central avenue, and march to the Central hall, with bugles and drums playing. I was a drummer, although not very good it must be said. The sound of the bugles and other drums masked my poor playing. My mother was a member of the women’s bright hour, from the late 1940’s until the late 1970’s. Rev Ayre was the incumbent for most of my time there.
I was also in 1st Billingham B.B. from I think (duff memory), about 1956 to around 1959(ish). Happy days with many happy memories. Do Terry Gilbert and Chuck McCorkindale ring any bells with you as officers in charge?
