Hi Angela, I imagine this fairground and equipment was erected on the site adjoining New Street, Thornaby and found directly behind Thornaby Police Station, before the industrial units that are there today were erected. In the 1940-1955 period, the most prominent Teesside fairground company was owned by Sam Crow and Sons, Northallerton, t/as Crows Fair. They are still around and when I was a youth your uncle Kevin Cooney and myself used to attend it on the large site known as near Wilson Street and adjacent to Harewood Bank, Thornaby. I can remember both your grandparents very well and they could be summed up as the salt-of-the-earth, a wonderful law-abiding Irish family of whom you should be very proud.
