Freedom of the Borough Invitation c1968

This invitation was given to my Father – he was asked to attend a dinner on 23rd March 1968 where the Freedom of the Borough was conferred on four persons who had either made an impression on or had connections with Stockton-on-Tees.
The dinner was commemorate the dissolution of Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council upon the commencement of Teesside on the 1st April 1968.

  1. In the 1960s, I rode with Teesside Clarion Cycling Club (run by Len and Colin Armstrong) with an Alastair Smith and knew Alastair’s father was a doctor. They lived in a large house in Fairfield near Grangefield Grammar School, further along the same road before a roundabout was later put in. Also in the above club was a classmate and close team-mate called Eric Short who won a lot of track events. (I was Eric’s “wing-man”.) Can also recall a John Cameron who later became a world-class cyclist. Any of you guys still around???

    • Colin, if you contact the Picture Stockton team with your email address they will pass it on to me. I am still in contact with Colin, Eric and John who have been asking after you. I last met you when we were both working at the British Rail Board HQ in London.
