  1. Jimmy Orpen receiving the shield in the photo, served his time as a tradesman at Head Wrightsons Machine Shop, Thornaby, he was the opening batsman for Norton Cricket Club first team.

  2. This looks like the same Trophy won by the Stockton n Boys team I captained in 1950. there is a photo on the site some where taken in our back garden at 21 Hawthorn Rd Primrose Hill . We had Gus Williamson in our team., Gus was a slow bowler batsman in those days but blossomed into a very good fast bowler batsman in county cricket, opening the bowling for Northants alongside Typhoon Frank Tyson . In later years Gus was r the professional for Bishop Auckland in the North Yorks and South Durham League.. In the 1962 Team Photo is my Cousin Keith Lakey, Keith went on to play for the Boro and finished his career in Australia Playing for the very successful Juventus team. Keith Webster was also in this Juventus team after playing with Newcastle United in the !st Division in England, Keith Webster also served the Stockton Cricket Club first eleven as a wicket keeper. batsman . All three of us Played in Stockton Boys Cricket and Football teams over a period and we are still batting along in Australia at present.

    • Keith Webster was a pro at Newcastle but never played in the first division for them, he played 9 times for Darlington, as a schoolboy he played on the Ragworth School field with the Ragworth lads & David Clarke & Terry Nugent from the Hawthorne Road area.

      • I assume you are referring, in this paragraph, to Keith “curly” Webster who played football for Newtown School around about 1957, and lived in Hawthorn Road (I think).

  3. I went to school at Holy Trinity with a Bruce Pallister, who lived in Billingham, and wonder if his family has anything to do with this shield. I know there are a fair number of Pallisters on Teesside, including Gary who played for Boro’.

    • Bruce Pallister is my younger brother, now living in the Isle of Wight. A good soccer player, but certainly not the originator of the Pallister Cup. Most likely, this was set up by my cousin, Gary, – a professional who played for England.

      • It can’t be the Gary Pallister that played for the Boro, Man Utd and England, this photo taken in 1962, Gary wasn’t born until 1965.

      • If you mean Gary Pallister the ex Man Utd & Boro professional I don’t think so, in 1962 he would of only been about seven years old.

        • Stockton Boys won the Pallister cup or shield as it was in 1950 so it has nothing to nothing to do with Gary Pallister the Boro footballer. I remember having the Shield in my home for a number of weeks but where it is now who knows.
