I’m trying to find any details on this old song ‘Polly Flockton’. It mentions South Stockton and Norton. I believe the song dates from around 1870. Does anyone know the tune and who wrote it?

My post The Fishermans Daughter I have found the musical score for the song, it turns out that this was written by a German American composer E MACK. The song is not relating to Stockton-on-Tees or Norton but Stockton and Norton in California. E MACK was a prolific writer of civil war Marches.

Yes Dave, the words do match up, as I tried it out on the piano. But you have to be a quick and nimble singer to get all the words in! There was a family in Stockton called Flockton, they appear in the Census records for 1871 – 1891, but I cannot see a Polly amongst the children.
