This photograph shows ‘Althams’ the grocery and tea dealers, 126 High Street. Built in 1908 the decoration above the shop makes this building look older than it really is.

and the facade ruined by the tat beneath it.
If I remember right this was the only single story building in the town center with the upper floors being replaced by an ornate facade.
There were three single story buildings in the High Street, the others were The Shambles & Wolsey which was between the Royal Oak & the Sun pubs.
