I recall it being parallel to the side wall, or am I thinking of another engine?
The ‘side wall’ is behind the photographer with the train in the background standing at the terminus of the Middlesbrough/Saltburn line. Locomotion No1 was moved from the Head Of Steam Museum in Darlington to the Locomotion museum at Shildon last year in preparation for the S&DR Bi-Centenary in 2025.
