  1. Does anyone know? When age 11, born 1941, I passed the then State Scholarship exam known as the 11+ (1952 era). My parents and I was given to believe, that the Robert Atkinson School “was a Grammar School.” It had a good reputation then uniforms and all, and well admired, but was it a Grammar School or not?. Grammar schools in the UK today seem to be much posher and grander affairs, way above the standing, the premises used and locality of Robert Atkinsons in Thornaby, so what was it? All replies appreciated. R Wilson, Bob, Five Lamps.

    • Robert Atkinson was in those days a Central school. This means it was a “selective” secondary school. If you Google -meaning of central school you will get a little more information.

  2. I attended Robert Atkinson school around 1942 until around 1945
Probably not many people still alive that attended there when I did. My name was Pat Robinson, now Strachan. I have lived in Canada since 1957. Love to hear from anyone who has info.
