This slide purports to show Stockton Cycling Club’s 1895 racing team. As you can see the men on the bikes seem to have had their faces pasted over their original faces… very curious. Perhaps this ‘editing’ somehow was/is not noticeable when the slide is viewed through a magic lantern, it’s certainly very obvious when seen as a digital copy but it must have taken some time and effort to create this image, I wonder why it was done?

…or maybe the bikes & bodies from a previous team, with the faces of the 1895 team added 🙂 It reminds me of seeing an old family photo where one deceased member of the family had been pasted into the group!

Fascinating. Perhaps the person who created the image found better quality head-shots of the cyclists – say from actual photos, and pasted them onto the lower-quality general view possibly from a newspaper article or club newsletter.

Yeah maybe, after having looked at the rest of my slides i see that the three guys are all seen in other photo’s including one that was posted here in 2020 showing the dude on the left wearing the same outfit & on the same bike
