  1. I used to be friendly with Mickey Fenton’s son Mike Fenton, who moved to the US in the mid ‘60s. I wonder whatever happened to him.

    • Yes that is Madge Temple. She and Ernie moved into 13 Oxbridge Avenue just three doors from me (No.7) in the mid sixties along with their son Pete(r) who used to play footie and cricket with me and the rest of the lads from up the road. A little known fact is that Madge was the sister of Boro and England forward Micky Fenton who later had a newsagents in Roseworth (I think).

      • Hi Jeff, this is Ian Russell and we lived at no.11 next door to te Temples. And yes, you are right about Mickey Fenton and his paper shop at Roseworth.

  2. WIMPY-BAR: First place I ever had ‘burger and chips’. My dad took me there because of staff discount from his sister roughly 1967/68 on a market-day (Wed/Sat). By the way… it was better than that other famous outlet with the golden arches. I therefore assume this photo pre-dates it (1965/66?)

  3. Yes, I used that bar, great dome in the ceiling of the back room as I remember.
Though Ernie, Major never moved far from a bar after that, taking over the Lord Nelson.
