Mr M Simpson: Silver Street, Stockton on Tees 1929 – This photograph is from my late mothers family history records showing the shop in Silver Street and the man himself from October 1929. Albert (Bert) Gilbert Glasby was my Great Uncle (by marriage) and took over the shop when his father, William Robert Glasby, died in 1939, as far as I’m aware.
Photograph and details courtesy of Mr Simpson.

Was this shop a model shop in the 1960s? (Kits and similar?)
Mr Simpson,
many thanks for posting this gem of a photo.
Currently #29 Silver St., with the passage through to Wasp Nest Yard on the left. Despite going through several changes and redevelopments since this photo, the building is still there and has gone back to looking very much like it does in this photo, which is something to appreciate.
Wonderful picture – particularly love the faces peering from the window!
Wonderful picture. Cigarettes were very important then.
Thank you – Howard Spence
We live in different times. But Mr Glasby was indeed a “Merchant of Death”….my mother died of cancer, she smoked Wills Woodbines all of her adult life.
