I was wondering whether this church has been demolished and used to be at Haverton Hill. I am looking for a picture of a church from Haverton Hill (Sweethills) where my Great Grandmother is buried. All I know is that all is left is the graveyard and the wall. if anyone knows can you please email me? samroberts1985@hotmail.com
My sister is buried in this church and also three cousins, one from sweethills. We used to live half mile away.
Again the Lychgate is worth looking at – Built by subscription and Gentry, in 1880, this wooden gate is much more ornate than St Marys Norton, although the medieval system of construction is similar ‘Peg and Dowel’ no nails. The Billingaham ‘pegs’ are not sawn flush as Nortons and a corroded Weather-vane tops the canopy
