I worked in Doggarts Department Store in 1960 for six years and have fond memories of those days. I am one of those girls on the roof of Doggarts. I used to dress some of the windows for Doggarts and serve underwear from the counters behind me!!
From 1959 to 1970 I was employed as an Electrician, working for Doggarts, and the work involved me travelling to all the branches. I am now involved with a project group, including Derek Toon, Bishop Aucklands Town Centre Manager, who are organising an exhibition to commemorate Doggarts. This project has the support of the remaining members of the Doggarts family, in particular Sandy Doggart. Consequently, we are looking to hear from anyone with their memories of working for Doggarts and any items of interest which people could loan us. If anyone can help please contact Mavis Dixon on johndixon2002@virgin.net; Derek Toon on dtoon.wvdc@virgin.net or myself on godfrey@smith6797.fsnet.co.uk Thanking you all in anticipation, Godfrey Smith.
