  1. I was apprenticed to Edward Appleby Ltd in the 1950″s and my wife worked there for over 25 years and neither of us can remember any mention of a connection with a printer in Grantham in the firms history. Having done some research into the Stockton firm going back to its foundation by Robert Christopher in around 1770 I have discovered that Edward Appleby was born in around 1867 and died in 1949. His Father Thomas Appleby took over the firm after the death of Thomas Jennett in 1846 and passed it to his son Frank in 1888. The company subsequently became his brother Edward”s in 1899. A limited company was formed in 1929 shortly after it moved premises from the High Street to this building in Prince Regent Street.

    • My mum Audrey Simpson ( nee Sankey) worked here for over 12 years. I believe she left here around 1960. Don’t know if you remember her. She is now 82 years old 😊 and I am her daughter Pamela x

      • I worked with Audrey in the office, we were good friends. I was often at her house in Billingham and you dad lived two doors away. I left to go into nurses training

  2. Does snyone know whether this was the same Edward Appleby who was in business as a printer in Grantham in 1901?

  3. Edward Appleby”s printing works and stationery shop moved into this building on the corner of Prince Regent Street and Dovecot Street during the 1920″s. The lower picture is the first floor stationery shop which looks much as I remember it from my apprenticeship there during the 1950″s. Before moving into this building the business was located on the high street in the building which was originally the workshop of Stockton”s first printer Robert Christopher established in the 1770″s.
