  1. This site is what every local borough library service in the country should have to preserve our heritage. My mother was born in Stockton in 1915 – her father DAVID MILLAR ROBINSON was a councillor in Thornaby. Other family names were EDMONDSON, FIRBY, NEWTON. All her family are now listed on the family history site GREATHED.ORG.

  2. I am also born and bred in Thornaby and now live in Stockton. I would like to say well done to everyone who has done so much hard work to fill this site with all these wonderful photos and information. Fantastic, it makes me feel proud to be a Stocktonian.

  3. What a wonderful and interesting tour it was, of old Stockton. I am a Stocktonian and am really proud to be one. The pictures were clear to look at and it does make you try and think where the building”s were. But some of them building”s were beautifully build, lots of character, unlike building”s today.

  4. The site and book are wonderful. I have lived in Stockon all my life and have been researching my family history for years. Nice to see some of the views that I have read about or looked at in census records.

  5. I have just spent a delightful Sunday afternoon going through the photographs they are wonderful. Whoever put the book together in the first place all those years ago can not have known how important it would be today.  Three cheers for the team that put things together so that we could all enjoy it I have emailed a few relatives brought up in Stockton but now living in the south I hope they enjoy it as much as I have.

  6. My Husband and I moved here 12years ago this weekend (29th April). We purchased a business on Lanehouse Road, Thornaby. I was told about this site by a friend ~ so I thought I would have a look, it is BRILLIANT ~ all those lovely old pictures. The High St. has changed much and so many things that I didn`t know about Stockton ~like it`s Race Course and Brewery. I shall be telling of my friends about this BRILLIANT SITE. Lizz

  7. My mum and dad were born up in Thornaby and Stockton respectively. I lived in Thornaby until I was nine. I”ve just begun researching our family history and was so interested to find this old book of photos. I found it fascinating and recognised many of the places. My maternal great grandfather lived and worked as the signalman at Norton Junction. One of my grandfathers was a barber in Thornaby.
