Billingham Green “Finger-Post” From “The Old Billingham-Walk” leaflet No.5 :- You are now in Vicars Row. As part of the anti-invasion schemes of 1940,destination boards, railway station signs and finger-post were removed to confuse any invader. Thousands were scrapped, but Billingham was fortunate in having its A19 finger-post found and restored. This was the the first A19, note the destination and mileage. The second by-passed the Village to the west via Billingham Bank and Station Road, later Davis Bridge. The third is the present A19 motorway. A commemorative plaque from “The Old Billingham Society”, which holds a yearly carnival and show on the Green is on this post
