…if this helps, EF 2080 registered in West Hartlepool. EF 1 was registered in December 1903. EF 3977 was registered in January 1929. So EF 2080 is probably 1928 or 1929 first registered. As a matter of interest, EF 9750 was registered in January 1951 and EF 9999 was registered in July 1951. Therefore this index mark EF with index mark preceding numbers was in use for almost 48 years.
The Registration letters “EF” were actually issued by West Hartlepool County Bourough Council before 1974, at their local vehicle taxation and licencing offices. In October 1974, the whole procedure of vehicle licencing was rationalised, and eighty one local vehicle licencing offices took over operations from all the smaller offices. The new office for the Cleveland area was now based in Middlesbrough, they issued EF, along with those from the former North Riding, such as VN, and AJ, as well as those from Durham, such as UP, and PT, Darlingtons HN was also issued from Middlesbrough after this date. There was another change in 2001,and Cleveland is now catered for by a new office in Stockton on Tees. I haven”t yet traced the Bus yet, because “Unity”dosn”t appear in any of my Books regarding pre 1930 Bus operators, (or at least I haven”t found it yet!)It looks like a Model T Ford, and the Bodywork could be by Edmunds of Middlesbrough.but that”s just speculation on my part.
The Unity bus was owned by my grandfather, Matthew Heslop, who lived in Alston Street West Hartlepool. He was a foreman at Cameron’s brewery and his son and 2 daughters ran the service from West Hartlepool to Stockton-on-Tees.

The “EF” prefix to the registration number indicates that this vehicle was registered in Middlesbrough.
My mother caught the last tram to Middlesboro, and returned to Stockton on the first bus
