  1. I visited this Street at Preston Park Museum five years ago and was so impressed that I took a great number of photographs, now safely tucked away in the Family Album. I was interested in Frank Bowron”s reference to Hallifield Street as I lived for a while, in the mid thirties, in Edgar Street, just around the corner. A little before your time Frank.I remember a little sweet shop in Butler Street, and a small Chapel on the corner of Edgar/Butler Streets. I took a walk around this area five years ago and found that the Street had scarcely changed in seventy years.I have cousins, with whom I am still in contact, who did live in Hallifield Street, on the corner of the back alley that ran up to St.Michael”s Church. Memories!!!

  2. There”s a “Victorian” room in that museum that”s identical to our old back kitchen in Hallifield Street. Coconut matting and “clouty mats” on the floor, kettle boiling over the kitchen range, knobbly knee-ed table and everything. Just as it was – and I”m certainly no Victorian!
