  1. Thanks Colin I remember 3 Rue De Flurus now and asking the girl for a kiss in French or at least I had forgotten it until you reminded me. As I said it was 58 years ago although I remember other things and the cafe for a reason as I had remembered something about it. I am renovating my house – it needs it and it is a very slow process. I have never been back to Paris but my youngest son has and has been in more countries than I can count. He really gets around the world.

  2. Hi Alwyn, The address you are looking for is 3 Rue De Flurus. Next to Luxemburg Gardens. Across the road from there was a cafe where you asked a french girl for a kiss. Last time I visited Paris was 1994 I revisited the area but alas the place was dead, no cafe open. It was a great trip. Next time i am in Christchurch I will look you up.

  3. The S class were all boys although while I vaguely remember a Nancy Riley she was in no way connected to the boys class. Maybe she was from another class or related to one of the teacher”s. It is now 58 years since we all took the great trip so if anyone whom knows Nancy they would have it confirmed through her.I can still picture the place we all stayed (It was pulled down years ago)there was a shop or dairy opposite. The area was plagued by ethnic violence a few years ago which i recognised on T.V. If i can find out more i will post it.

  4. I remember Jimmy Summers when he married one of the Reverly sisters who i was friendly with.Jim was a great artist and a real nice chap. He came to live in Birkdale Road just round the corner from where I live and quite near to where Benny lived in Tunstall Road.I was best man for his late brother and sister in law Len and Joan Barber. His other brother and sister in law Babs and Martin Devany went to live in Austrailia many years ago. Benny, I do remember you wife from Pickering Lifts all those years ago just before I left to go to another job.

  5. I made an error when i said 28 started the class in 1946 it was actually 32 but fell to 28 after a couple of weeks. Yes i went to Paris of which i still have some vivid memories. I remember when we walked down the Champs Elysees towards the Arc de Triumphe where the unknown warrior was buried there was a plaque commemorating the deaths of a large number of people whom were shot to death as they queued for food. At that time we were only allowed so far up the Eiffel Tower because some one had just previously committed suicide from the top. The Louvre, Notre Dame and other landmarks. We did take in a lot in the short time while we were there. I have forgotten the name of the place we stayed and the rue ???. I can picture it in my mind. No i did not become a teacher or an accountant which was my first choice , i did at first go for further studies at the Stockton High School but had to leave when i could not get deferred from the Army which i enlisted on 13th Nov. 1950 serving 2 years service. I was in the Royal Artillery as a T.A.R.A. coming out on Nov. 5th 1952. things were not the same so when i saw an advert for immigrants to New Zealand in the Evening Post in Jan, 1956 io applied and after having 2 different medicals and 9 references and 4 jabs we set sail on the 13th July from Glasgow and arriving in New Zealand on 18th Aug. ship time,19th Aug New Zealand time. I have 1 son living in Melbourne and another in Perth I have a son in London and a son & daughter here in Christchurch. all i spend my time on now in Genealogy where i have traced parts of my family back to the 1500s. I have been to Surfers paradise once , Sydney 3 twice, Melboune 3 times and Perth once when i came back from a trip to England in 2004 meeting my Grandchildren for the first time although i did have dozens of photos of them. my son and his wife lived in Melbourne before selling up and moving to Perth to have their children. Perth is further away from Melbourne than it is from Christchurch. Another trip to Australia would be fine for me as i have enough air points to get a free tip to the Eastern States, only i have too much on at the present time.

  6. Benny not quite right regarding boys only in the S classes. Quite a few of the S class members were included in the school trip to Paris. One of them being Nancy Riley from Egglesclife (Niel Harrison Lived close to her). Nancy lives in Doncaster now. Alwyn Stoves, I am sure was also on that trip. Perhaps he can confirm this. Maybe we should have a school reunion in Australia our numbers are mounting.

  7. Among the Prefects shown is my wife Marie Kennedy, who sadly passed away in February of this year. Marie was an excellent scholar and athlete, of the others in the picture I know that June Ford (June Oram) and Hazel Moody (Hazel Raine) are still living on Teesside, they were good friends of my wife Marie and I still keep in contact with them. I think Donald Lewis is still on Teesside and Amy Jones of course lives in Australia. The Re-union that took place was for the 4A class, and after being instrumental in trying to arrange the re-union was unable to attend due to Marie,s illness. All the boys in the photograph were from the S1 special class, and were in he main two to three years older than the Standard 4A class as they had stayed on to complete their School Certificate education, whereas most of the boys in the 4A class took up apprenticeships and further study at the Stockton Technical College, studying Higher National Engineering and some went on to gain degrees in Engineering. Most of the S1 class who were all boys as I remember them, became teachers, after gaining their School Certificates, Was this also your career Alwyn.

  8. Thank you for the memory, it is a long time ago now but I remember the one”s that were in my class. I am 75 in August and as i remember only Donald Lewis was older than I. I would like to know how many others on the photograph are still alive. I have lived in New Zealand for the past 53 years coming up on the 19th August 2007.From the 28 that started the class in 1946 only 7 finished. The missing one from the photo was Eric Hutchinson from Sedgefield i believe. What I remember of Jimmy Summers was he was a great artist as were Eric Barnes and Donald Lewis. Sorry i missed the reunion in 2002 although i did go back for a trip in 2004. Hope to hear from other”s.

  9. Hi Joan, this photo must have been taken 1949 (Amy should be able to confirm this). Was Jimmy in the S classes. Did he make the trip to Paris that year? 4A 1949 had a reunion in 2002. There were a few names we could not put to faces.

  10. How wonderful to see my little brother, Jimmy Summers on your website. Jimmy passed away at a young age from motor neuron disease, he was a great athlete and a teacher, and I was very proud of him. He also was the good looking one in the family. Thank you
