  1. The Loco is part of the procession which marked the 1825 celebration. It is London & North Western Railway No 3020 “Cornwall”. That “Cornwall” had survived to take part is something special in itself. Built at Crewe in 1847, it originally had an incredibly low slung boiler which was below the axle of the 8 foot 6 inch diameter driving wheels. This didn”t work out too well so it was rebuilt with a more conventional boiler in 1858, but it didn”t receive the boiler in the photo until 1897. It remained in service until 1905, but survived even after that because it was used to pull the Chief Mechanical Engineer”s saloon carriage around the L&NWR network until it was finally withdrawn in 1922. It can be seen today at “Locomotion” museum at Shildon
