  1. My dad is Alan Winter sat on the front row next to Mr Brown. I have a copy of this photo and was pleasantly surprised to see it. Sadly my dad died in 1980 aged 39 so don’t have many details of his younger years. I do have a few more photos of him at school age .

    • I remember your dad Alan he had a pleasant personality & played in goal for Bailey Street School. Sorry to hear of his demise.

  2. The late Alan Mockler in this photo later worked at Head Wrightsons Machine Shop, Thornaby, as a turner on a horizontal borer, he emigrated to California, U.S.A.

  3. Alan, was Brian Atkinson (the boy you identified 5th left, back row) the footballer who played for Stockton F.C. & Sparkes, also the brother of Harold(Big G)Atkinson. Dickie Kemp was the former Sunderland outside right in the fifties.

  4. I think the date of the photograph is wrong. I beleive the date is 1954/55.
The boy on the back row next to Jack Young is Brain Atkinson, Alan Atkinson is on the front row.

  5. The lad on the left front row is Keith Wood,he was a cousin of the Brown brothers Jimmy, Freddy, Kenny & Arthur who all went to Bailey Street. Brian Kemp is also a relation the Blue Cap”s Mick.

  6. It is wonderful to see this Bailey Street school photograph, supplied by Robert McGuinness. This is most certainly the class I would have been in had I not gone on to Richard Hind School, after the 11+ exam. I knew so many of the lads in this photograph from my days at Bailey Street. Albert Tattersdill, Dennis(Matty)Garbutt and Robert McGuinness himself are also on one of the school football photographs in the Picture Stockton collection. In recent years I have not met many of the lads featured here, although I have seen Brian Critchley also Dennis Garbutt around Stockton town centre. One other is Brian Kemp who is a well known committee member at the Stockton Buffs club, his uncle Dikie Kemp was landlord, for many years, at the now demolished Tilery Inn that stood on Garbutt Street of old. I was told Derek McKie, also in this photograph, sadly died a few years ago. My thanks to Robert McGuinness for supplying this photograph and bringing back many good memories of the time I spent at Bailey Street school.

  7. I can remember most of the names from this class. Back Row L-R; T. Skeen, L. Cuthbert, B. Bowes, R. McGuiness, A. Atkinson, J. Young, A. Tatersdill, White, E. Meynell, B. Kemp, B. Buckle. Front Row L-R; ?, Laverick, Critchley, A. Fox, A. Mockler, A. Winter, Mr Brown, A. Atkinson, M. Mannion, D. Garbutt, A. Barlow, D. McKay
