  1. This picture reminds me me of an incident in the late 1950s when I was on a cycle along with my two brothers ( yes that is right three of us on one cycle riding down Finkle Street towards the quayside and at the bottom of the Finkle street bank we managed to collide with a butchers bike complete with rider as a result we went to the fire station in West Row who I seem to remember cleaned and dressed our scratches for us, So I believe that the picture is very close to the Finkle Street junction. Also around 1965 there was a young man who worked at the Woodworkers supplies called Peter who lived with his mother in one of the Ginnels off Finkle Street

  2. Eric Collins – the new Council Offices were opened in October 1959 (according to the plaque) so the photo must have been after that date.

  3. In front of the Municipal Buildings can be seen a set of “prefab” style offices. I remember going there with my mum when she was checking up on how many points she needed to get a council house. We moved into a brand new council house in 1958, so could the picture date from the late 50″s? Was the photographer suspended from the end of a crane jib!
