Yes that is my mum Doreen Smith in the second row, sixth. She just turned 81 and she lives in Texas. She married Peter Mitchell and moved to the states in 1966. She goes “home” to
Stockton at least twice a year.
My nanna was known as Vera Smith, also went by Robina, not the one in this photo though – too young. Anyone got more pictures of Billingham? This is a lovely picture. Love going through the old pictures on this site trying to find history within Durham, eg Billingham, Mill Lane or Sherburn Road. Can anyone tell me in 1907 – 1911 time what area either of the places were in eg Western Durham, Northern Durham etc…
This is the first time I”ve seen this photograph of our class at Tilery Infants school 1945.I”m the little girl in her best dress sitting on the left at the end of the front row of girls. Behind me is Joan Perry,Dorothy Gill,Joan Agerskow, Maureen?,Janet Readman,?,Joan Cornfield & Vera Smith. Next to me on the front row is ?,Betty Lamb,?,Joan Bowes,Doreen Smith,?,Pat Thompson,Hazel Bean,Maureen Enderwick & Kay Stephens.I couldn”t remember them all,in fact I”m amazed I remembered any!! Miss Barr was the headmistress, she was very strict but fair. Thanks Ray for reviving those memories of my first years at school, the only boys I remember are Tony Court & Jacky Long.I think the blonde boy next but one to the left of you was Robin Sylvester.
Some more identifications (to the best of my knowledge!) Back Row from L to R – 1st – Peter Kitching 2nd – Stan Eddy 6th – Tony Court 7th – Malcolm Stayman 9th – ? Ernie Sanderson ? At end – Miss Barr (Headmistress) 2nd Back Row – 7th – Brian Boddy 8th – Rudolph Grainger 11th – ? Alan Simcox ? Front Row – 3rd – Colin Ainsley 5th – Trevor Cockerill 6th – Jackie Long 7th – Tony French I”m afraid I don”t recognise any of the girls – sorry, Ladies!
The little “cherub” front row, extreme right, is me. 3rd from the left, front row, was my friend Colin Ainsley. Although I have a later photo of the boys class, circa 1950, I have never seen this photo and I now live (retired) in Lincoln.
