Stockton Town Hall used to be described as being a ‘Dutch’ type. It is certainly like many buildings in North Holland which have had to be built with brick, as there is no local stone available. Is there any information about who did the design and when it was actually inaugurated? How old is the clock?
In March 2002 I was given the task of climbing the clock tower and hoisting the Union jack to half mast to commemorate the passing of the Queen Mother, not the most enviable of jobs but one I will always remember. It was strange to see the names of what I presume were the clock menders etched onto the doors of the clock tower, some of which date back to the 1800’s – you see, graffiti is not a new fad created by the youth of today it appears it’s been going on for hundreds of years.
