Name that school?

This classroom picture is thought to have been taken at a school in the Stockton or Thornaby area. A group of schoolboys can be seen in what appears to be a music lesson…can you name that school? Photo courtesy of Janette Outhwaite.

  1. This is definitely not F.W.Cain. Fred Starr is correct, he was head at SGS. He didn’t teach music to my knowledge. I know what he looked like and this gentleman is not him.

  2. Providing the photograph was taken in 1926 Alex Murcha cannot be correct. I knew Mr Cain as a headmaster of Stockton Grammar in 1960. He would have been in his middle forties/early fifites at this point of time…..Hence Mr Cain would have been about 16 when this photograph was taken. The mystery remains. But it seems unlikely that this is a grammar school. The boys are not wearing ties, I think.

  3. The teacher looks a lot like Frank W Cain – was headmaster at Stockton Grammar School and later a tutor at the sixth form college.
