This is definitely not F.W.Cain. Fred Starr is correct, he was head at SGS. He didn’t teach music to my knowledge. I know what he looked like and this gentleman is not him.
Providing the photograph was taken in 1926 Alex Murcha cannot be correct. I knew Mr Cain as a headmaster of Stockton Grammar in 1960. He would have been in his middle forties/early fifites at this point of time…..Hence Mr Cain would have been about 16 when this photograph was taken. The mystery remains. But it seems unlikely that this is a grammar school. The boys are not wearing ties, I think.
The teacher looks a lot like Frank W Cain – was headmaster at Stockton Grammar School and later a tutor at the sixth form college.
