Quayside Locomotive “Swillington”

“Swillington” sadly awaits its fate at the Tyne Tees Shipping Company on Stockton Wharf on 23 September 1963. This was presumably the locomotive of that name built by Hudswell, Clarke in about 1875 with a works number of 150; unfortunately positive identification was not possible as the worksplates had disappeared.

  1. I remember one day, (can’t remember the date but was in the late 60’s) when my pal and myself walked round the yard gaining access through St John’s Crossing gates, to the right we noticed a a shed made out of corrugated sheeting with a line leading into it, we looked through the door and seen a sad sight of a steam locomotive all cut up in bits, I don’t know if this was the same loco, someone may have more information.
