I bought two steaks here after a rather good market day session on the beer. They were so large, I had to stagger back to Asda for a bigger frying pan.
Before it was Stubbs Butchers, it was owned by Mr Goodwill of Grangefield Road. I remember the floors being covered with sawdust and occasionally blood dripping from the animal carcasses hanging in the shop. Refrigerators what refrigerators?
My father was a good friend of Mr Stubbs the butcher. I became a friend also and know most of his family. That’s what we are missing these days, friendly faces and respect for everybody. Life is far too fast these days.
Anyone remember what went in to the jawbreaker sandwich he sold in this butchers?
Yes
Yes that’s Fred, Stubbs F. M.
I know because he’s my uncle.
And a Gentleman.
Yes that’s my Uncle Fred..

I remember after a saturday night out getting hot beef sandwiches from this butchers.
The best pork belly sandwiches in the world by far
Thats definitely Freddy Stubbs. A true gentleman and a friend of my father who managed the Farm Stores in Dovecot Street.
