1973 Inn Cognito Club Membership

Attached is a scan of my 1973 membership card for The Inncognito Nightclub in Stockton. The “R1” scribble on the reverse indicated that I had been issued with tickets for The Radio 1 Road Show that visited the club in The Spring of 1973. I was living in an attic bedsit in Westbourne Street at the time whilst working for “Whitelocks” cheese factors of Tyndale Street in Oxbridge. It was not long after this that I left Stockton for London and a career with British Railways.

  1. Ah the Inn Cognito where I met my future wife on July 23/4 1976, still together 49 years later. We were so spoilt for great nightclubs back then, La Ronde (Billingham), Fiesta (Norton), Pharoahs, Bentleys, 21 Club, Inn Cognito, Electric Onion, The Kirk (Yarm) and latterly The Mall and Tall Trees (Yarm).

  2. Alastair Smith? Are you Dr Smith’s son from Raby Road? Ruth Devereux here… attractive Stockton girl with a good taste in music! Not anymore…60 this year!

      • Hi Cath, Ruth Richards here (nee Devereux) what did you do at the Inn Cog? Do you remember scary Flo and her poor hen-pecked husband Eddie? Do you remember Hazel who used to DJ with me?

      • What are you up to these days Alastair? Remember Stockton & Billingham Tech when we used to play cards and lose our bus fare home! We spent most of our days in the Astronaught Pub if I remember rightly!

        • Hi Ruth, I have just spotted your reply. Typical of me 4 years late. I am now living in Port Mulgrave having retired from a very successful 37 year career with the railway industry. 1st class free travel by rail for life.
What about yourself. Last thing I heard was Superdrug, you working there that is, not taking them.
