This photograph of the handsome, and very young airman busy servicing one of the 608 squadron’s Vampire Jets, is me! The photo was taken during the RAF Thornaby’s 1954 ‘Open Day’ in commemoration of the Battle of Britain. I seem to remember that the pilot behind me was Flying Officer Darling.
